About us:
Sky Island Quartet is the premier string quartet in the Salt Lake valley. They perform classical masterworks throughout the concert season and a yearly pops concert in the summer.
Comprising four Utah musicians, the quartet is locally focused. Their home venue is the Canyon View Credit Union Community & Arts Center in West Jordan, an arrangement made possible through their partnership with West Jordan Symphony. They also perform regularly in Midvale, and have given concerts in Taylorsville and Ogden. Their growing audience regularly includes their families, friends, students, colleagues, and neighbors, whose presence and support is deeply appreciated.
The quartet formed in 2024 to provide a creative outlet for its members, who up until that point had played gigs together but wanted to explore more varied and challenging repertoire. In 2026 the quartet welcomed Kristen Olson as their new first violinist. Sky Island Quartet’s future includes a growing variety of works from the classical repertoire, exciting
collaborations with other top-notch performers, and an expanded collaboration with West Jordan Symphony.
The quartet’s members have held prominent orchestral positions, contributed to film and television recordings, and performed in venues ranging from opera houses to international stages. These varied experiences allow them to deliver captivating performances across a wide range of genres, creating unforgettable musical moments for their audiences.
Beyond their performance careers, the quartet is passionate about education. Each member is dedicated to inspiring future generations of musicians through private lessons, music festivals, and institutional teaching. This commitment reflects their belief in music’s transformative power to connect and uplift people of all ages.

About the name:
We adopted as our name a term that describes a geological phenomenon: “A Sky Island is an isolated mountain range that rises up out of the surrounding desert ‘sea.’” (US National Park Service) For us, it’s also a reference to the iconic overlook in Canyonlands National Park, Island in the Sky.
Sky islands are set apart from their surroundings. They’re high vantage points, from which you can see vast distances and observe the shapes and colors of the landscape on a grand scale. They can be challenging to get to. They also host unique forms of life, different from the flora and fauna of the surrounding deserts.
As a quartet we aim to distinguish ourselves in the same way, rising to place of prominence in our local cultural landscape and filling every performance with a unique vibrancy and spirit.
